This article talks about GCPL's strategy in the global economic slowdown.

  • Adi Godrej says GCPL stands by a saying: "Sales is vanity, Profit is sanity and Cash is reality".
  • GCPL works on negative capital in India.
  • When they supply to their distributors, GCPL gets paid in cash while it gets credit from their suppliers.
  • This means that even their capital expenditure can be funded through the increasing negative capital.
  • GCPL made several acquisitions in the developing world like Asia, Africa and South America.
  • Cost reduction was mainly done through merging of the distribution systems such as Godrej Sara Lee merged into GCPL.
  • They are currently focusing on 3 categories, 3 geographies strategies wherein:
    • 3 categories: home care, personal wash, consumer goods.
    • 3 geographies: Asia, Africa and South America.
  • GCPL introduced a disruptive product: Fast Card a no-smoke mosquito coil to combat the rising cases of dengue, malaria in urban areas.
